Question
Name the two alliances/fronts that formed the Government at the Centre in 1989 and 1996 respectively.
Solution
Power has mostly remained with the two national parties—the Congress and the BJP. However, in 1989, it was the National Front which won the election. In 1996, the United Front consisting of non-Congress and non-BJP was created and secured support from 332 members out of the 545 seats in the Lok Sabha.
