Question

State any two conditions that favour the cultivation of cotton in India.

Answer in Brief

Solution

There are two factors that make cotton farming in India more favourable:

  1. India's cotton farming industry grows best in warm regions with 20°C to 30°C temperatures and 50 to 100 cm of rainfall.
  2. It needs plenty of sunshine and at least 200 "frost-free" days to flourish.
  3. With the use of irrigation, it may also be grown in regions with lower rainfall.
  4. The ideal soil types for growing cotton are the alluvial soil of the Northern Plain and the black cotton soil of the Deccan Plateau.
