1. Auroville is an experimental township in the Viluppuram district of Tamil Nadu, India, near the city of Puducherry (Pondicherry).
2. Four Sustainable Practices Adopted by the People of Auroville:
   1. They are using solar energy for generation of electricity for lighting the streets, solar kitchen, pumping and heating water.
   2. They have proper waste water management, which caters to the various needs of the Auroville community. The water is irrigated and reinserted into the ground to recharge the aquifers.
   3. Auroville has electrical vehicles like small electrical cars, electrical bicycles and motorbikes for transporting people.
   4. Auroville also uses wind technology for energy production and pumping water.
   5. Architecture and design in Auroville involve natural architecture, which takes advantage of locally available building materials. Effective planning reduces the need for artificial lighting and cooling systems. Ferro cement is largely preferred over conventional cement for construction.
   6. The buildings have rainwater harvesting structures which capture and store water for use in the dry season and also redirect it to the water table.
