Question
Taking x = `(-4)/9`, y = `5/12` and z = `7/18`, find x + (y + z).
Solution
Given, x = `(-4)/9`, y = `5/12` and z = `7/18`
Here, x + (y + z) = `(-4)/9 + (5/12 + 7/18)`
= `(-4)/9 + ((5 xx 3 + 7 xx 2)/36)` ......[∵ LCM of 12 and 18 = 36]
= `(-4)/9 + ((15 + 14)/36)`
= `(-4)/9 + 29/36`
= `(-4 xx 4 + 29)/36`
= `13/36`
