The median of the following observation 11, 12, 14, 18, (x + 4), 30, 32, 35, 41 arranged in ascending order is 24. Find x.
Solution
11, 12, 14, 18, (x + 4), 30, 32, 35, 41
No. of term are odd (9)
∴ Median = `(("n" + 1)/2)^"th" "term"`
= `((9 + 1)/2)^"th" "term"`
= `5^"th" "term"`
∴ Median = x + 4
and Given Median = 24
∴ x + 4 = 24
x = 20.
