Trunks of some of the aged tree species appear to be composed of several fused trunks. Is it a physiological or anatomical abnormality? Explain in detail.
Solution
This is an anatomical abnormality. In case of abnormal secondary growth, cortical and medullary vascular bundles are formed. This gives rise to additional or accessory vascular bundles which give the appearance of additional trunks which appear to be fused.
