Question

Two bodies, A and B of equal mass are kept at heights 20 m and 30 m respectively. Calculate the ratio of their potential energies.

Numerical

Solution

Let the equal mass of two bodies A and B be m.

Given : height h1 = 20 m

and h2 = 30 m

Potential energy of body A = mgh1

= m × g × 20

Potential energy of body B = mgh

= m × g × 30

`"Ratio""P"_1/"P"_2=("m"xx"g"xx20)/("m"xx"g"xx30)=2/3`
