Question

Two capacitors each of capacity 2 μF are connected in parallel. This system is connected in series with the third capacitor of 12μF capacity. Find the equivalent capacity of the system.

Sum

Solution

Here, C1 and C2 are in parallel.

∴ CAB = C1 + C2 = 2 μF + 2 μF = 4 μF

Here, CAB and C3 are in series,

∴ `1/"C"_"AC" = 1/(4mu) + 1/(12mu)`

∴ CAC = 3μF

The equivalent capacity of the system is 3μF.
