Question
Two numbers are in the ratio 4:5 and their HCF is 11. Find the LCM of these numbers.
Sum
Solution
Given ratio of the numbers is 4:5
∴ let the numbers be
a = 4x and b = 5x
Clearly H.C.F (4x, 5x) = x
Given H.C.F = 11
∴ x = 11
substitute in (1)
Numbers are a = 4x = 4 × 11 = 44
and b = 5x = 5 × 11 = 55
H.C.F × L.C.M = Product of the two numbers
∴ L.C.M = `(a × b)/(H.C.F)`
`L.C.M = (44xx55)/11`
L.C.M = 220
