Activity

Solution

  1. Model of the Milky Way Galaxy: The Milky Way is a spiral galaxy with billions of stars, planets, and other celestial objects arranged in a swirling disk.
    • Materials Needed: A large circular cardboard or foam board, Cotton, glitter, or small beads for stars, Paints (white, blue, yellow, and black), A compass or protractor, Glue and brushes
    • Steps:
      1. Prepare the Base: Cut a large circle out of cardboard to represent the galaxy's disk. Paint the background black to represent space.
      2. Add the Galactic Features: Paint a bright yellow center to represent the galactic bulge where the black hole, Sagittarius A, is located. Use white and blue paints to draw spiral arms extending from the center. Sprinkle glitter or glue small beads along the arms to represent stars.
      3. Highlight the Sun's Position: Place a small yellow dot in one of the spiral arms (approximately two-thirds from the center) to mark the Sun’s location.
      4. Label Features: Label the spiral arms, galactic bulge, and the Sun's location.
  2. Model of the Solar System: The Solar System includes the Sun, eight planets, moons, and other celestial bodies.
    • Materials Needed: Styrofoam balls (different sizes for the Sun and planets), Paints (yellow, red, blue, green, etc.), Thin wires or strings, A cardboard or foam board base, Glue, brushes, and a stand (optional)
    • Prepare the Planets
