Question

Write the effects:

If the Sun disappears.....

Activity

Solution

The Sun is the source of light, heat, and energy for Earth. If the Sun suddenly disappeared, it would have serious effects on Earth and all living things. Here’s what would happen:

  1. Immediate Darkness: The Sun provides light, so its disappearance would result in total darkness on Earth. It would take about 8 minutes and 20 seconds for us to notice because that’s how long sunlight takes to reach Earth.
  2. Drop in Temperature: Without the Sun’s heat, Earth would start to cool rapidly. Within a week, the surface temperature would drop below freezing. Eventually, Earth would become extremely cold, and life would struggle to survive.
  3. Disruption in Photosynthesis: Plants need sunlight for photosynthesis, which is how they make their food. Without sunlight, plants would die, and this would disrupt the entire food chain, affecting all living organisms.
  4. No More Gravity from the Sun: The Sun’s gravity keeps the planets in orbit. If the Sun disappeared, Earth and other planets would drift away into space in a straight line.
  5. Effect on Life: Without light and heat, humans, animals, and plants would not survive for long. Most life on Earth would die within a few months due to cold and lack of food.
  6. Oceans Would Freeze: Oceans would slowly freeze from the surface, though deep waters might remain liquid for a long time due to Earth’s internal heat.
