Question
What is the effect of temperature on the ionic, product of water? How will it change the pH value of a neutral solution?
Solution
As temperature increases, the concentration of H+ and OH– increases and hence pH value decreases.
At 298 K
`[H^+][OH^(-) = 10^(-14)]`
∴ for neutral solution
pH = 7
and at high temperature pH will be less than 7.
