Question

How many hours does it take to reduce 3 moles of `Fe^(3+)`to `Fe^(2+)` with 2.0 A Current intensity?

Solution

`Fe^(3+) + e^(-) -> Fe^(2+)`

∵ for 1 mole of `Fe^(3+)`,  1 mole of `e^(-)` is required

∴ for 3 moles of `Fe^(3+)`, 3 moles of `e^(-)` are required

`∴ 3e^(-) = 3F = 3 xx 96500C`

`Q = I xx t`

`3 xx 96500 = 2 xx t`

`:. t = (3 xx96500)/(2 xx 3600)`

t = 40.2 hrs
