Question

What happens when copper sulphate crystals are heated strongly? Explain with the help of an equation.

Solution

When copper sulphate (CuSO4.5H2O) crystals are heated strongly, they lose all the water of crystallisation and form anhydrous copper sulphate, which is white.

               CuSO4.5H2O → CuSO4 + 5H2O
