Question
What is the equivalent resistance between the points X and Y for the given network?
Solution
An equivalent circuit for the combination
`1/"R" = 1/"R"_1 + 1/"R"_2 + 1/"R"_3`
R1 = 5 + 3 = 8 Ω
R2 = 8 Ω
R3 = 1 + 3 = 4 Ω
`1/"R" = 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/4`
`1/"R" = (1 + 1 + 2)/8`
`= 4/8 = 1/2`
R = 2 Ω
