Questions
What is photosynthesis?
What is photosynthesis? Explain its mechanism.
Solution 1
The process by which green plants use sunlight to make their own food from carbon dioxide and water is known as photosynthesis. This is done in the presence of chlorophyll.
Solution 2
Photosynthesis is a process in which the energy of light is utilized to produce simple organic compounds in autotrophs. In the process of photosynthesis, the energy of sunlight is captured by photosensitive pigment like chlorophyll in green plants. The energy harnessed by light is utilized for the photolysis of water molecules within the chloroplasts of green plants. As a result, nascent oxygen is released as molecular oxygen gas. Hydrogen released by the reduction of water is further utilized by the plants in a light-independent reaction where carbon dioxide is reduced to simple carbohydrates or sugars in a series of metabolic reactions within the plant chloroplasts.
The detailed equation of photosynthesis can be represented as human
\[\ce{6CO2 +12H2O6->C6H12O6 + 6O2 + 6H2O}\]
