Question
What will be the number of unit squares on each side of a square graph paper if the total number of unit squares is 256?
Solution
Let the number be x.
Then, number of unit squares = x × x = x2
But total number of unit squares = 256
∴ x2 = 256
⇒ x = `sqrt(256)`
= `sqrt(16 xx 16)`
= 16
Hence, the required number of squares is 16.
