Question
What will happen if the top layer of soil is exposed?
Solution
If the upper layer of soil is exposed, the hard rocks beneath it will become visible after the soil layer is removed. This reduces the amount of humus in the soil, and its fertilising power also decreases relatively. Gradually, the fertile land starts turning into a desert; this is called desertification.
