Consequences of Deforestation

Topics

Consequences of Deforestation:

  • Loss of Habitat: Many animals and birds have lost their homes because they live in forests. Without forests, they have nowhere to go.
  • Loss of Plants: Many plants grow only in forests, and if forests are cut down, these plants will disappear.
  • Less oxygen: Trees give us oxygen to breathe, and if we cut down forests, there will be fewer trees to clean the air and give us oxygen.
  • Biodiversity Loss: Forests have many different types of plants and animals (biodiversity). If forests are cut down, these animals and plants may die out, reducing biodiversity.
  • Soil erosion: Trees hold the soil in place. Without trees, the soil can easily be washed away by rain, making it harder to grow crops.
  • Climate Change: Trees help balance the climate by absorbing carbon dioxide. Fewer trees mean more carbon dioxide, which can cause the Earth to get warmer.
