Question
While the Chinese economy has improved dramatically, why has everyone in China not received the benefits of the reforms? State any three reasons.
Answer in Brief
Solution
- China's economy has grown a lot, but not all of its people have benefitted from the changes. China has set up special economic zones, become the best place for foreign direct investment, and seen a lot of economic growth since Den Xiaoping's 'open door policy.' China's economic strength has helped them deal with some of their problems with the US, Japan, ASEAN, and Russia.
- Even so, unemployment has gone up, and nearly 100 million people are looking for work. Women have to work in situations that are just as bad as they were in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Corruption and damage to the environment have gotten worse, making the income gap between people who live in cities and those who live in rural areas and along the coast bigger.
