Question
Explain any three new sources of threat to security with examples.
Explain
Solution
- Terrorism: Terrorism is political violence that is planned and random, aimed at civilians, and it affects many countries or regions. Terrorist groups want to change the government by spreading fear through attacks like car bombs and hijackings in busy places. Most of the big terrorist strikes have happened in South Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.
- Poverty: India, China, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Indonesia are the six countries that have half of the world's population increase. People will live in three times as many poor countries in 50 years as they do now, but fewer people will live in richer countries. This difference makes the gap between northern and southern countries even bigger. Sub-Saharan Africa has the most armed wars and poverty-related problems because its governments have failed, it lacks resources, and there are more insurgencies.
- Global Migration: People who are poor in the Global South move to the Global North in search of better job opportunities because of global migration. They flee from threats such as war, natural disasters, or persecution, seeking refuge and improved opportunities. Armed battles in the South force millions of people to leave their homes. The refugee movement is closely linked to war. In the 1990s, most refugee flows happened during internal armed conflicts.
