Why couldn't the narrator sleep?
Solution
The narrator could not sleep because he could listen to the noises approaching the night. He would see that the air was heavy & still & the moon was hiding behind clouds. He found that Lord Otori was fast asleep and he was trying not to listen to any sound but still could have everything that went on in the house.
