Some of the Emergency's important aspects were:

1. Several opposition figures, including Jayaprakash Narayan, were detained right away, as were dissident members of her own party.
2. The Prime Minister was given the power to rule by mandate under the Emergency order, which permitted the suspension of elections and the restriction of civil liberties.
3. The press was closed down, and Sanjay Gandhi, Indira Gandhi's son, conducted forced mass procedures.
4. Thousands of protestors and demonstrators were placed under preventive detention by the authorities using police forces across the nation.
