Question
Write observations:
Ammonia gas is passed over heated copper (II) oxide.
Solution
When gaseous ammonia is passed over solid copper (II) oxide at high temperatures, nitrogen gas is formed.
\[\ce{2NH3_{(g)} + 3CuO_{(s)} → N2_{(g)} + 3Cu_{(s)} + 3H2O_{(g)}}\]
Also, this \[\ce{N2}\] gas is not pure as it would be in the heating of \[\ce{NaN3}\], like compounds.
