  1. A report may be defined as an organised statement of facts relating to a particular subject prepared after an inquiry or investigation and presented to the interested persons with or without recommendations.
  2. Reports are formal documents that present information, data, and analysis on a specific topic or issue. They communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to stakeholders such as management, clients, or regulatory bodies.
  3. Reports can vary in length and complexity, depending on their purpose and audience, and are essential tools in business, academia, and various professional fields.
  4. According to G.R. Terry, "a report is a written statement based on a collection of facts and opinions. It may deal with past accomplishments, present conditions or probable future developments". 
  5. A reporting system is vital to any management information system, particularly to responsible and decentralised management. Therefore, every manager should report on those operations for which he has accepted responsibility and authority.
