प्रश्न
Find the equation of a straight line passing through (– 8, 4) and making equal intercepts on the coordinate axes
उत्तर
Let the x-intercept andy intercept “a”
The equation of a line is
`x/"a" + y/"a"` = 1
The line passes through the point (– 8, 4)
`(-8)/"a" + 4/"a"` = 1
`(-8 + 4)/"a"` = 1
– 4 = a
The equation of a line is
`x/(-4) + y/(-4)` = 1
Multiply by – 4
x + y = – 4
x + y + 4 = 0
The equation of the line is x + y + 4 = 0
