Basis of Distinction Stakeholders Customers
Financial stake Stakeholders like shareholders and employees have a financial stake in a business firm. Customers do not have a financial stake in a business firm.
Supply of capital Stakeholders supply financial capital or human capital. Customers do not supply any capital to the organisation.
Buying goods and services Stakeholders do not buy goods or services from the organisation. Customers buy goods or services from the organisation.
Risk-taking Stakeholders take risks for the organisation. Customers do not take risks with the organisation.
Product Orientation Products are not manufactured according to the taste of the stakeholders. Products are manufactured according to the tastes of the customers.
Market orientation Market orientation is not necessary for the satisfaction of stakeholders. Market orientation is necessary to satisfy customers. 
Sharing of profits Stakeholders share profits in the form of interest, dividends, wages and salaries. Customers do not share the profits of the commercial organisations.
Participation in management

Stakeholders, such as the owners, participate in the management of the organisation.

Customers do not participate in the management of the organisation.
