India is passing through stage 3 of demographic transition.

India shows the following characteristics of Stage 3 of demographic transition: 

  1. The death rate and the birth rate are decreasing.
  2. This is reducing the rate of population growth, though the birth rates are higher than the death rates. 
  3. As the progress of the country is accelerating, the income of the people of the country is above the subsistence level. 
  4. Their standard of living is elevated and poverty is decreasing. 
  5. Education level of the population and use of technology is increasing.
  6. Secondary and tertiary activities are expanding.
  7. People now know the importance of family planning and family size is reducing. 
  8. Countries that are moving towards the developed stage from the developing stage are going through this stage.

Hence, we can say that India is passing through stage 3 of demographic transition.
