प्रश्न

Is Huygen’s principle valid for longitudinal sound waves?

टिप्पणी लिखिए

उत्तर

Yes, it can Huygen’s principle basically states that every point wavefront can be considered as a secondary source of tiny wavelets that spread out in the forward direction of the wave itself. The disturbance due to the source propagates in spherical symmetry that is in all directions. The formation of the wavefront is in accordance with Huygen’s principle.
So, Huygen’s principle is valid for longitudinal sound waves also.

You have learnt in the text how Huygens’ principle leads to the laws of reflection and refraction. Use the same principle to deduce directly that a point object placed in front of a plane mirror produces a virtual image whose distance from the mirror is equal to the object distance from the mirror.

Use Huygens' principle to verify the laws of refraction.

Define the term 'wavefront of light'. A plane wavefront AB propagating from a denser medium (1) into a rarer medium (2) is incident of the surface P1P2 separating the two media as shown in fig.
