प्रश्न

Two equal balls with equal positive charge 'q' coulombs are suspended by two insulating strings of equal length. What would be the effect on the force when a plastic sheet is inserted between the two?

उत्तर

Since plastic is an insulator, the electric field lines due to any of the charge will not be able to pass through it. In the absence of an external electric field due to the other charge, both the charges will not experience any force due to each other.

One end of a 10 cm long silk thread is fixed to a large vertical surface of a charged non-conducting plate and the other end is fastened to a small ball of mass 10 g and a charge of 4.0× 10-6 C. They are suspended from a horizontal rod through two strings of length 20 cm each, the separation between the suspension points being 5 cm. In equilibrium, the separation between the balls is 3 cm.
