Video Editing Basics
Video Import
This is the first step of video editing. This refers to loading of a video captured from a digital camera to computer
Video and Stock Footage
Video footage is raw material of video imported from camera and stock footage refers to archive footage, library pictures and file footage
Cut and Cutaway
Cut is an instant change from one shot to the another. Cutaway is used to show parallel actions where within a sequence of scenes we put another shot
Jump Cut / Cut in
It is a cut between the shots where the angle and position are same.
Video Frame & Frame Rate
Frame is made up of the complete image. Frame Rate is the e frequency at which consecutive images called frames appear on a display.
Transition
In many cases, we need to change from one shot to another. In such cases we should use transition which makes the change in shots smooth.
Video Recording Principle
- Do not cross 180-degree line. The 180-degree line describes the position of the camera and the object which you are shooting
- Join your videos in sequence and edit them in sequence. You must have a logical or ideal sequence of all the videos which you are editing
Pudovkin’s five principles of editing
- Contrast: It is the cutting between two different scenarios to highlight the difference
- Parallelism: In this we can connect two seemingly unrelated scenes
- Symbolism: In symbolism we move from our main scene to something which creates a symbolic connection for the audience.
- Simultaneity: It is the cutting between two simultaneous events.
- Leit motif : The ‘reiteration of the theme’ involves repeating a shot or a sequence
