1. Physical Factors: Relief, elevation, soil capacity, climate, drainage, ground water level, etc. are a few of these. These elements affect the kind of home and the distance between them. For instance, water is an essential element in Rajasthan's arid regions, so homes are arranged around oasis, creating compact settlements. In certain regions, communities typically develop alongside rivers.
2. Ethnic or Cultural Factors: The components like caste, community, ethnicity, and religion are among them. In India, it is typical for the lower castes or those who provide services to live on the outskirts, while the main caste that owns the land sits in the middle of the village. As a result, there is social segregation and a division of the population into multiple units.
3. Historical or Security Factors: Previously, outsiders have frequently conquered or attacked the border areas of the northwest plains. Village communities thus favored to reside in compact or nucleated settlements for security-related reasons.
