3x - y = 7 -(1)
x + y = 5 -(2)
⇒ x = 5 - y
Putting the value of x in (1)
3(5 - y) - y = 7
⇒ 15 - 3y - y = 7
⇒ - 4 y = -8
⇒ y = 2

x + 2 = 5
⇒ x = 3
