प्रश्न

If a 5 N and a 15 N forces are acting opposite to one another. Find the resultant force and the direction of action of the resultant force.

उत्तर

The two forces are unlike parallel forces

Let P = 5N, Q = 15N
Resultant force (R) = P – Q = 5 + (-15) = -10N
R = -10N.
The resultant force acting along the direction of “Q”.

A moving bicycle comes to rest after sometime if we stop pedalling it. But Newton’s first law of motion says that a moving body should continue to move for ever, unless some external force acts on it. How do you explain the bicycle case ?

Name the physical quantity whose unit is ‘newton’.

Three rigid rods are joined to form an equilateral triangle ABC of side 1 m. Three particles carrying charges 20 μC each are attached to the vertices of the triangle. The whole system is at rest in an inertial frame. The magnitude of the resultant force on the charged particle at A is.

A reference frame attached to the earth
(a) is an inertial frame by definition
(b) cannot be an inertial frame because the earth is revolving around the sun
(c) is an inertial frame because Newton's laws are applicable in this frame
(d) cannot be an inertial frame because the earth is rotating about its axis.

A particle is found to be at rest when seen from a frame S1 and moving with constant velocity when seen from another frame S2. Mark out the possible options.
(a) Both the frames are inertial.
(b) Both the frames are non-inertial.
(c) S1 is inertial and S2 is non-inertial.
(d) S1 is non-inertial and S2 is inertial

State and explain the law of inertia (or Newton's first law of motion).

Explain the following :
After alighting from a moving bus , one has to run for some distance in the direction of bus in order to avoid falling .

Give one example each of inertia of rest and inertia of motion.

A body of mass 10 kg is acted upon by two perpendicular forces, 6 N and 8 N. The resultant acceleration of the body is ______.

  1. 1 m s–2 at an angle of tan−1 `(4/3)` w.r.t 6 N force.
  2. 0.2 m s–2 at an angle of tan−1 `(4/3)` w.r.t 6 N force.
  3. 1 m s–2 at an angle of tan−1 `(3/4)` w.r.t 8 N force.
  4. 0.2 m s–2 at an angle of tan−1 `(3/4)` w.r.t 8 N force.

Two blocks A and B of masses m and 2 m, respectively, are held at rest such that the spring is in natural length. Find out the accelerations of both the blocks just after release.
