प्रश्न

To construct ray diagram we use two light rays which are so chosen that it is easy to know their directions after reflection from the mirror. List these two rays and state the path of these rays after reflection. Use these rays to locate the image of an object placed between centre of curvature and focus of a concave mirror.

उत्तर

Any two rays can be chosen to locate the image.

(a) A ray parallel to the principal axis after reflection will pass through the principal focus in case of a concave mirror and diverge from the principal axis in case of a convex mirror.

(b) A ray passing through the principal focus will emerge parallel to the principal axis after reflection.

To construct a ray diagram we use two rays of light which are so chosen that it is easy to determine their directions after reflection from the mirror. Choose these two rays and state the path of these rays after reflection from a concave mirror. Use these two rays to find the nature and position of the image of an object placed at a distance of 15 cm from a concave mirror of focal length 10 cm.

To construct ray diagrams, two rays of light are generally so chosen that it is easy to determine their directions after reflection from a mirror. Choose two such rays and state the path/direction of these rays after reflection from a concave mirror. Use these two rays to find the position and nature of the image of an object placed at a distance of 8 cm from a concave mirror of focal length 12 cm.

According to New Cartesian Sign Convention:

(a) focal length of concave mirror is positive and that of convex mirror is negative
(b) focal length of both concave and convex mirrors is positive
(c) focal length of both concave and convex mirrors is negative
(d) focal length of concave mirror is negative and that of convex mirror is positive

A convex mirror is used as a shaving mirror.

Complete the following diagrams in figure by drawing the reflected rays for the incident rays 1 and 2 if F is the focus and C is the centre of curvature.

A student obtained a sharp inverted image of a distant tree on a screen placed in front of the concave mirror. He then removed the screen and tried to look into the mirror. He would now see

(A) a very blurred image on the wall opposite to the mirror

(B) an erect and magnified image of the tree in the mirror

(C) no image as the screen has been removed

(D) a highly diminished inverted image of the tree at the focus of the mirror.

Draw the ray diagram and also state the position, the relative size and the nature of image formed by a concave mirror when the object is placed at the centre of curvature of the mirror.
