प्रश्न
What happens when
NH3 solution is added to CuSO4 solution drop by drop and then in excess.
उत्तर
When NH3 solution is added to CuSO4 solution drop by drop, ammonia ions completely react with copper sulphate and precipitates of copper hydroxide are formed.
CuSO4(aq) + 2NH3(aq) + 2H2O(I) → Cu(OH)2(s) + (NH4)2SO4(aq)
But when we add excess of ammonia, the precipitate dissolves and a soluble complex is formed.
CuSO4(aq) + 4NH3(aq) → [Cu(NH3)4]SO4(aq)
