Question
`5 1/2` metres long rope is cut into 12 equal pieces. What is the length of each piece?
Solution
Total length of the rope = `5 1/2` m = `11/2` m
Total number of pieces = 12
Let the length of each piece be x m.
According to the question,
`12x = 11/2`
`x = 11/(2 xx 12)`
`x = 11/24` m
Hence, the length of each piece is `11/24` m.
