Question
A compound with empirical formula AB has vapour density 3 times its empirical formula weight. Find the molecular formula.
Solution
Given: Empirical formula = AB
Molecular mass = 2 x vapour density
But here, vapour density = 3 x empirical formula weight
Molecular mass = 2 x 3 x empirical formula weight
∴ Molecular formula = A6B6
