Question
A metal cube of side 4 cm is immersed in a water tank. The length and breadth of the tank are 8 cm and 4 cm respectively. Find the rise in level of the water.
Solution
Volume of metal cube
= Volume of water level risen in the tank
l3 = Volume of water level risen in the tank
∴ Volume of water level risen in the tank
= 43
= 64cm3
The volume of water rise is in the shape of the cuboid
∴ l x b x h = 64
8 x 4 x h = 64
∴ h = `(64)/(8 xx 4)`
∴ h = 2cm
∴ The rise in the water level is 2cm.
