Question

A single letter is selected at random from the word ‘Probability’. Find the probability that it is a vowel.

Sum

Solution

Possible outcomes = S = {'P', 'r', 'o', 'b', 'a', 'b', 'i', 'l', 'i', 't, 'y'}

n(S) = 11

Event of selection of vowels = E = {'o', 'a', 'i', 'i'}

n(E) = 4

Probability of selection of a vowel = P(S)

= `"n(E)"/"n(S)"`

= `4/11`
