Question
A stretched sonometer wire is in unison with a tuning fork. When the length of the wire is increased by 5%, the number of beats heard per second is 10. Find the frequency of the tuning fork.
Sum
Solution
Given :
`L_1/L_2=100/105`
∴ `L_2= 1.05 L_1`
∴ `L_2 > L_1, n_2 < n_1`
∴ `n_1 - n_2 = 10 , N= n_1 ≅ ?`
→ By the law of length of vibrating string,
`n_1 L_1 = n_2L_2`
∴ `n_1 L_1 = n_2 L_2`
∴ `n_1 = 1.05 n_2 - 10.5`
∴ `n_1 = 210 Hz`
