Question
Amisha has a square plot of side m and another triangular plot with base and height each equal to m. What is the total area of both plots?
Solution
Given, Side of square plot = m and height and base of triangular plot = m
∵ Area of square plot = m2 ......[∵ Area of square = (side)2]
∴ Area of triangular plot = `1/2 xx m xx m = m^2/2` ......`[∵ "Area of triangle" = 1/2 xx "height" xx "base"]`
∴ Total of both plots = Area of square plot + Area of triangular plot
= `m^2 + m^2/2`
= `(2m^2 + m^2)/2` ......[Taking LCM of 1 and 2 is 2]
= `(3m^2)/2`
