Question
An eight-year-old child is showing aggressive and disruptive behaviour in the class. As a student of Psychology, what, techniques would you suggest to help modify the child's behaviour?
Solution
For the above given situation four techniques from behaviour therapy would work better on the child. They are:
- Negative reinforcement: Punishing him for his actions might result in discernible changes.
- Positive reinforcement: Praise him for his positive behaviour and good manners to get him to change his ways.
- Token economy: In this method, he will be encouraged and motivated to maintain excellent behaviour by receiving prizes in the form of tokens gathered for it.
- Differential reinforcement: Not addressing him when he misbehaves and tantrums, but also praising him when he behaves well with his classmates, will increase his proclivity to conduct right.
