Question

Answer the following question.

Show that `vec"a" = (hat"i" - hat"j")/sqrt2` is a unit vector.

Sum

Solution

`vec"a" = (hat"i" - hat"j")/sqrt2`

`vec"a" = 1/sqrt2 hat"i" - 1/sqrt2hat"j"`

`|vec"a"| = sqrt((1/sqrt2)^2 + ((-1)/sqrt2)^2)`

= `sqrt(1/2 + 1/2)`

= `sqrt1`

`|vec"a"|` = 1

As magnitude of `vec"a"` is 1. `vec"a"` is unit vector.
