Question

Answer the following question.
How is O2 and CO2 transported in human beings?

Short Note

Solution

Inhaled air is rich in oxygen and is carried to the lungs. The diffusion of oxygen to the blood occurs in the capillaries, in alveoli, where the oxygen combines with the hemoglobin to form oxyhemoglobin.  This oxygen-rich blood is taken to the heart, for distribution, via the pulmonary vein. The carbon dioxide moves from the tissues to the plasma and red blood cells which are carried to capillaries in alveoli via the pulmonary artery. Carbon dioxide diffuses out from the capillaries in alveoli. The carbon dioxide rich air is at last expelled from the body during exhalation while breathing.
