Question
Apply Lami’s theorem on the slingshot and calculate the tension in each string?
Solution
Given,
F = 50 N, θ = 30°
Here T is resolved into its components as T sin θ and
T cos θ as shown.
According to Lami’s theorem,
`F/sintheta = T/sin(180 - theta) = T/(sin(180 - theta))`
`F/sintheta = T/sintheta`
`F/(2sintheta costheta) = T/sintheta[T = T/(2costheta)]`
T = `T/(2costheta) = 50/(2cos30) = 28.868` N
