The three factors which gave birth to the “ Consumer Movement in India” are :
The consumer movement arose due to the absence of any legal system in the marketplace which led to exploitation of the consumers at the hands of the sellers. As a result in order to protect and promote the interests of the consumers, the Consumer Movement in India came into being.
The need to create awareness among the consumers and the sellers that it is the responsibility of the seller to ensure quality of goods and services.
Also rampant food shortages, unfair and unethical trade practices like hoarding and black-marketing, adulteration of food gave birth to Consumer Movement in India.
