Question

Exchange of calcium between bone and extracellular fluid takes place under the influence of certain hormones. What will happen if very less amount of Ca++ is in the extracellular fluid?

Short Note

Solution

If a very less amount of Ca++ is in the extracellular fluid then parathyroid hormone (PTFI) acts on bones and stimulates the process of bone resorption (dissolution/demineralisation). PTH also stimulates the reabsorption of Ca2+ by the renal tubules and increases Ca2+ absorption from the digested food.
