Question
Explain the term reduction in term of addition and removal of oxygen/hydrogen with a suitable example.
Solution
Reduction: Addition of hydrogen or removal of oxygen is called reduction.
\[\ce{CuO + H2->Cu + H2O}\]
Copper oxide is reduced to `"Cu"`
\[\ce{H2S + \underset{\text{Reduced}}{Cl2->2HCl} + S}\]
Chlorine is reduced, as addition of hydrogen.
