Question
Factorise the following by grouping the terms:
3ax2 - 5bx2 + 9az2 + 6ay2 - 10by2 - 15bz2
Sum
Solution
3ax2 - 5bx2 + 9az2 + 6ay2 - 10by2 - 15bz2
= 3ax2 + 6ay2 + 9az2 - 5bx2 - 10by2 - 15z2
= (3ax2 + 6ay2 + 9az2) - (5bx2 + 10by2 + 15bz2)
= 3a(x2 + 2y2 + 3z2) - 5b(x2 + 2y2 + 3z2)
= (x2 + 2y2 + 3z2)(3a - 5b).
